dCAS Download Instructions

dCAS is downloaded in a five step process in which the required components are installed followed by the dCAS automated cDNA sequence analysis application.

Required Components

  • NCBI BLAST executable files
  • BLAST databases (NR, GO, Mit-pla, RRNA, Conserved Domain Databases, and UniVec)
  • CAP3 sequence assembly program

Step 1
Install BLAST Executable Files Component

Download the platform-specific BLAST executable files to your desktop

Unzip the file to a folder on your hard drive*

When you run dCAS for the first time, you'll be asked to provide the location of the BLAST executable files

*On a Windows machine, the download will extract to three folders: data, bin, doc. For simplicity, you may want to place these three folders in a new folder called 'BLAST'

Step 2
Install BLAST Databases Component

Download the BLAST database package to your desktop

Create a "databases" folder in the BLAST home directory and unzip the files to this folder

Step 3
Install CAP3 Sequence Assembly Component

Download the platform-specific CAP3 application from the CAP3 website to your desktop*

Unzip the file to a new folder on your hard drive

When you run dCAS for the first time, you'll be asked to provide the location of the CAP3 folder that you have created

*As part of the download, you will be asked to agree with the CAP3 license terms from the owners of license, Iowa State University Research Foundation, Inc. and Michigan Technological University

Step 4
Install Phred Application Component
(Optional)

If you wish to use Phred for adding base-calling for DNA sequence trace files to dCAS, follow the installation instructions at the Phred website*

*The download of Phred also involves compliance with a software user agreement. Phred software s emailed to users as described on the site

Step 5
Install dCAS Automated cDNA Sequence Analysis Application

Please select the target operating system and download the dCAS installer from the list on the right

Step 6
Install dCAS Mate
(Optional)

dCAS Mate is used with dCAS for parallel processing. It should be installed on the slave computer, which will be controlled by dCAS through local network. Please select the target operating system and download the dCAS Mate installer from the list on the right

Additional Materials:

We provide sample sequences for testing your copy of dCAS. Download the zipped folder of sample sequence files by following the link at right

Unzip the files to a location on your hard drive
